Who we are
The Nature and Health Practice Network (NHP) is a collaborative community for professionals and organisations involved in:
Green and Blue Care
Nature Health and Wellbeing,
Ecotherapy,
and other nature-based approaches.
We are a hub for learning, connection, and sharing, bringing together practitioners, researchers, health service providers, environmental organisations, and emerging projects in the nature and health sector.
While we are based in the West of England and closely linked to the West of England Nature Partnership (WENP), our network also welcomes members from across the UK and beyond.
Our Purpose
NHP recognises the evidence-based, holistic benefits of nature connection for people’s health and wellbeing. These benefits are most profound when facilitated by skilled health and wellbeing professionals in natural settings.
We are also committed to supporting the natural world, encouraging pro-environmental behaviours through deeper human–nature connection.
Our Key Aims:
· Support and empower nature-focused professionals, practitioners, organisations, and landowners to deliver high-quality services.
· Provide a central hub where communities can learn about nature-based approaches to health and wellbeing.
· Develop standards and quality assurance processes to ensure safe, effective, and professional practice.
· Actively engage with underrepresented communities to increase diversity and inclusion in the sector.
· Bring together academics, practitioners, and projects to share good practice and advocate for nature-based health.
· Serve as a platform for learning, professional development, and peer support.
Our Story
NHP grew out of the growing nature–health movement in the West of England. It was inspired by two key events: - Green Care Conference (2017) – funded by Making Local Woods Work. - Festival of Nature Conference (2018).
Following these events, the Nature and Wellbeing Group within WENP created two streams: 1. Nature and Health Strategy Group – focused on strategic development. 2. Nature and Health Practice Forum – which became NHP.
Initially hosted under WENP and co-facilitated by Natural Academy and EcoWild CIC, NHP became an independent entity in October 2020 with the formation of Nature and Health Practitioners CIC.
Today, the CIC is led by: - Director: Michéal Connors - Coordinator: Barbara Gonzalez
